What
is Biodiesel? Can It Reduce Pollution?
by SolveYourProblem.com
Alternative
fuel for cars is not very far away. In fact, in many
areas of the world alternative fuels are being tested,
used and refined for our future. Why all the increased
attention and awareness lately? The natural resources of the
earth are in shorter supply given the increased need
and growing world population. Also, our
supply of oil, coal and fossil
fuels may not last many years into the
future given how fast we consume it. Exactly when we'll tap
out can’t be determined, but with the continued increase in
fossil fuels
used, it is bound
to run out before the earth is able to replenish the
supply. Finding an alternative fuel source is and
should be forefront in our minds.
Biodiesel
is a form of alternative fuel for running cars. Biodiesel
is undergoing an ongoing testing process that is being
used on farms, in manufacturing and by automobile
makers as they look toward the future. Biodiesel is the use
of diesel combined with soybeans, sunflowers or vegetable
oils to create a mixture thereby extending the overall
supply of
diesel. It
can also be used in diesel engines with little or no
additional changes to the engines.
The
EPA has been telling the world for years that
we are burning fossil fuels and adding to the pollution
of the earth. To combat
our own use of these fossil fuels and to create additional
resources for our livelihood, additional forms of fuels have
to be discovered, tested and used. Cleaner air
is found with the use of biodiesel fuels in the diesels
that
we
run. Keeping
the air cleaner will help our children and our grandchildren
live healthier lives long into the future.
If
you are looking for statistics on biodiesel use, these biodiesel
sales have been compiled from biodiesel.org.
- In
1999, 500,000 gallons of biodiesel mixture was
sold.
- In
2001, 5,000,000 gallons of biodiesel was sold.
- In
2004, 25 million
gallons of
biodiesel was sold.
That's
a huge increase and great news. Let's keep that number rising
because that's a lot of trucks, tractors
and dependency being eliminated from
our reliance on foreign oil and being placed back on our
own soil.
The use of biodiesels is one method of relying
on our natural resources
and less on fossil fuels.
The
use of alternative fuels in cars will save the
world from enormous amounts of future pollutants. While we
can’t eliminate all the pollution we've already put into
the
atmosphere, we can
change
how much we
are putting into the air everyday from here on out. The use
of biodiesels will cut back on pollution and
help us clean up our act overall.
